Today is the day that no one’s been waiting for: DC’s new logo has finally made its way onto their books’ covers.
We’ve been seeing the logo within the pages of DC’s books for a couple of months now, on their ads for the We Can Be Heroes charitable campaign. The new logo’s appearance on the covers will also be accompanied by a banner for the charity across the top, like so:
We Can Be Heroes, by the way, is a great cause, and while I am not crazy about the logo itself, I think attaching it to this campaign is a good way to introduce the new emblem.
The logo falls pretty flat, in my opinion. The peeling effect of the “D” (which is hardly recognizable as even being a D) makes it look like it ought to be associated with something like a paper manufacturer rather than a comic book publisher. The one good thing I can say about the logo is that it appears we’ll eventually be seeing some dynamic color schemes and variations on it, depending on what character or title it is being associated with:
In memoriam: old DC logo. Sniff.
